Be proud of where you live – it’s a crime not to care

We know that general house-hold waste increases over Christmas and New Year, but it’s everyone’s responsibility to dispose of their rubbish correctly.

From cardboard boxes to food packaging - no-one wants to see rubbish carelessly dumped on our streets.

Fly-tipping is a crime. It’s dangerous and irresponsible. For those who take pride in their community, it is a real shame. Where cases of fly-tipped rubbish have evidence within them, our flytipping investigators won’t hesitate in reporting it to the local authorities for action.

Our estates team take great pride in creating neighbourhoods where we want our customers to be proud to live.  But the team won’t just be clearing up rubbish, we want people to be prosecuted for their actions.

There’s hidden CCTV cameras in some areas and this is helping us to catch the culprits, but we want communities to help by reporting fly-tipping.

Who’s taking your rubbish?

Unfortunately, waste disposal and household clearance services are some of the culprits, so please be careful when you choose who you’re asking to take away your rubbish.  They’ll go from door to door charging money to take rubbish away, but then dump the waste.

Many people aren’t aware of the serious consequences. They face a fine and the trader found to be fly-tipping could face an unlimited fine or a prison sentence.

If you’re asking someone to dispose of your rubbish, always ask the company for their waste carrier registration and always get a receipt, before you hand over your waste and your money.

Your waste, it’s your responsibility

  • Always dispose of your rubbish correctly and separate your general waste from your recycling
  • Make sure rubbish is secure in your bin and put it out on time for collection by your local authority
  • Check whether your local authority will collect larger items and arrange collection if it’s possible
  • Use your local household waste recycling centre to dispose of your waste for free
  • Use a licensed waste carrier, but ensure you receive a waste transfer note as you may be liable if your waste is illegally dumped.

Thank you to everyone who reports fly-tipping to us. Together we can put a stop to it and make our communities a better place to live – if you see it, please report it.
