Communities in Stockton and Thornaby are seeing the benefits of a multi-million pound regeneration scheme delivered by Tees Valley Housing and Tristar Homes aimed at improving the appearance of local neighbourhoods.

The landlords, both part of the Thirteen Group, teamed with Groundwork North East & Cumbria to enhance areas of land surrounding three of their housing schemes – Anson House, Hudson House and Lauder House.

Work was carried out at the Thornaby sites, near Anson and Hudson House, following the demolition of a large number of run-down garages in 2014. Now, thanks to the investment, the space offers new, well lit parking spaces as well as footpaths that significantly improve links to the town centre. To mark its completion residents held a special tea party, which included a local history exhibition and visit from Cleveland Fire Brigade to highlight fire safety awareness.

The revamp at Lauder House, in Stockton, followed extensive consultation with local residents who expressed their desire for a large green space. It features a herb garden, seating section and bespoke railings to enhance security further.

Groundwork, which was established in the region in 1985, delivers a range of social and environmental regeneration programmes that engage communities, private businesses and public sector partners to make sustainable change.

Dave Pickard, Director of Operations at Thirteen, the parent company of the landlords, said: “The aim of the investment programme is to improve and revitalise open spaces to create attractive and safe communities for our customers and other local residents to enjoy.

“Our collaboration with Groundwork has allowed us to liven up local neighbourhoods by bringing gardens and footpaths to areas that may have otherwise been left unused.”

Michele Armstrong, Groundwork North East & Cumbria Partnerships Manager, said: “Green spaces provide an enjoyable and peaceful place for local residents to socialise and help to build a strong sense of community. I am delighted that we can be part of this programme, which will change neighbourhoods for the better."
