Get Ready for Universal Credit in Middlesbrough

Universal Credit is launching in Middlesbrough today, 8 February 2016.

Universal credit

8 Feb 2016

This is the new benefit for working age people and we’re here to help customers prepare and understand how Universal Credit will affect you.

The new benefit is for people who are out of work or in work but on a low wage. It replaces existing benefits including:

  • Housing Benefit
  • Income Support
  • Income-Based Job Seekers Allowance
  • Income Related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Working Tax Credit
  • Child Tax Credit

Universal Credit brings a lot of changes, including differences in the way that you apply for the new benefit, when the benefit is paid and how it is paid. One of the biggest changes is in the way your rent is paid as you will need to pay your rent directly to us.

You can get more details in our Universal Credit leaflet. Or for more help and advice, customers can contact our trained staff on:
