The plans to carry out £31million of internal and external improvements on its homes across the North East will include replacing over 1,000 kitchens and around 200 bathrooms.

More than 1,400 homes will receive new windows and doors and over 500 roof improvements will be completed, to enhance the appearance of homes and ensure they are wind and watertight. With around 400 new boilers being installed over the year, homes will be more energy efficient.

The investment will make a real difference to customers, enhancing the appearance of their homes and the area they live in to make them great places to live.

Executive director of assets Paul Jenkins said: “Our customers are at the heart of what we do.

“We’re continuing to invest in homes and the communities we serve because it’s important to the customers we have now and the ones we want to attract in the future.

“This year’s investment plan will see over 2,400 properties across 45 estates receive improvement work.

“We’ve pledged our ongoing commitment to building safety and we’re also carrying out some significant investment within a number of our care and support schemes and communal areas.

“We’ll be looking at how we can use lower carbon renewable technologies at a number of pilot schemes, as we move towards our goal of being carbon neutral in the future.

“This is fantastic news for our customers and reaffirms our commitment to investing in homes and ensuring we meet future housing needs”.

The type of work carried out and when, depends on a number of things like the age and condition of the property’s fittings, such as kitchens and bathrooms, heating systems and wiring.

The work will be completed by Thirteen’s investment team and specialist contractors where they are needed.

Customers who are benefitting from the investment work, will receive a letter to tell them about the plans.
