Preventing pests in your home
From time to time your home, garden or the area you share with neighbours could get infested with pests, but this can often be prevented.
Your responsibility
In most cases, it is your responsibility to deal with a pest problem in your home or garden.
Usually problems are easy to deal with yourself. If you need pest control to solve the issue, there will be a cost if the problem is caused by lifestyle choices, and not by a problem with the building.
You should let us know about any problems which you think may be causing pests and insects to infest your home.
Our responsibility
We will deal with pest problems in your home where there are rats, mice, cockroaches, fleas and bedbugs. But please be aware this is only if the issue has been caused by a problem with the building.
Tips to prevent pests
There are a number of ways you can prevent pests in and around your home:
- Keep your floors clean, wipe up any spills using soap and water and clean your flooring at least once a week
- Dry your flooring and wipe up any spills
- Always take the rubbish out every day
- Keep your sink clean and wash your dishes every day
- Keep fruit in the fridge, especially when it’s ripe and always put it in the bin if it turns mouldy
- Make sure you put a lid on all food and drinks or keep them in a sealed container
- If you have pets, keep them clean and use flea and tick prevention
- Keep the outside area of your home clear. Do not pile wood next to your home, clear piles of leaves, keep plants cut back so pests can’t climb into the house and keep gutters clear.
