Young parents, School View in Durham

We offer accommodation and support for young parents, couples and pregnant women aged 16-25 near Durham who need support to live independently.

The project at School View includes nine two-bedroom furnished flats with access to a communal lounge, kitchen and laundry.

The project is staffed 24 hours a day and people can use the service for up to a year. Support includes help to:

  • develop living skills
  • access training and education
  • build relationships
  • improve budgeting skills
  • access community and leisure activities
  • meet health, wellbeing, faith and cultural needs
  • learn about healthy eating and care planning
  • provide information about other specialist services.

Moving on from the project

When people are ready to move onto live independently, we support you with this transition. The service works closely with social landlords, local authority housing teams and private landlords in order to offer choice when residents are ready to move on. Floating support is offered to help with the transition into independent living as well as referrals and signposting to other appropriate community based services.
