How we support people 

We provide

  • Help for people across the Tees Valley

  • Support for homeless families in Middlesbrough and Hartlepool 

  • Services for homeless people in Sunderland 

  • Advice and support for Thirteen tenants who are at risk of losing their home

We also offer specialist accommodation and support for people who have experienced domestic abuse. 

Our homelessness support services

Key Step is our homelessness prevention service for people across the Tees Valley who are homeless or at risk of losing their home.

We offer supported accommodation for up to 2 years, alongside housing advice and personalised support to help you move forward with confidence.

How we support you 

We’ll work with you to create a support plan that’s built around your needs.This can include: 

  • Finding the right accommodation 

  • Advice on benefits, budgeting and managing debt 

  • Encouraging positive life choices 

  • Referrals to services like employability, Citizens Advice, drug and alcohol support, and mental health services 

  • Building confidence and resilience 

  • Helping you maintain your home and feel part of your community

If you’re homeless or rough sleeping – or at risk – speak to your local council. They’ll assess your housing and support needs and refer you to the right services.

This project offers safe, supported accommodation for families who are homeless in Middlesbrough.

The scheme includes: 

  • 12 two-bedroom flats 

  • 2 three-bedroom flats 

  • Communal area 

  • Laundry facilities 

  • Outdoor play space

There’s also a crash pad available for 18-year-olds who are homeless, offering a short stay of up to four weeks. Staff are on site 24 hours a day to provide support.

How we support you

We’ll work with you to build a personal support plan and help you develop the skills you need to move on to independent living. Support is available for up to two years and can include: 

  • Budgeting and money management 

  • Building confidence and independence 

  • Finding work, training or education 

  • Getting involved in your local community

Moving on

When you're ready, we’ll help you explore your housing options. We work closely with: 

  • Social landlords 

  • Local council housing teams 

  • Private landlords

We’ll also refer you to other community-based services if needed. 

Sunderland Move On offers safe, supported accommodation for people aged 18+ who are rough sleeping or at risk of rough sleeping.

Each home includes: 

  • A one-bedroom, part-furnished flat 

  • Private kitchen and bathroom 

  • Secure door entry system

There is a team on site ready to help you when you need it.

How we support you

We work with people who are currently rough sleeping or have been rough sleeping for up to 2 years.

Our goal is to help you build the skills and confidence to maintain a tenancy and move towards a stable, independent life.

Support includes: 

  • Managing and maintaining a tenancy 

  • Budgeting and money skills 

  • Drug and alcohol support 

  • Physical and mental health 

  • Making positive use of your time 

  • Self-care and life skills 

  • Building motivation and taking responsibility

From day one, we’ll help you make positive changes. We also work closely with other organisations in Sunderland to give you the best possible start.
