Safety campaign reminds customers to keep shared spaces safe and clear

Our building safety team have launched a new safety campaign to remind customers to keep communal living spaces safe and clear.

Building Safety Customer Engagement

Blocked hallways, stairwells and landings are a serious risk in an event of an emergency. This campaign encourages everyone to play their part in keeping escape routes clear and ensuring the building they live in remains safe for everyone.

This is about putting the safety of our customers first. Communal areas must be clear from furniture, carpets, curtains and other personal items and they must never be used for storage.

Building safety engagement lead Nick Bishop said: “This campaign builds on our important message to customers – keep it clear.

“Whether that’s doormats, bikes, plants or rubbish bags, we’re asking customers to keep them out of shared communal spaces and corridors outside of their home, because a fire will spread quickly when there’s more fuel.

“Mobility scooters are just one example of something we see as a fire risk, especially when they are left within an escape route. They can be incredibly dangerous and must always be correctly stored and maintained.

“In our care and support schemes, we’ll always work closely with our customers to make reasonable adjustments, particularly for those living with dementia or mobility issues, while maintaining a strong focus on safety.

“By keeping shared areas clear, customers can all play a part in creating a safer environment for everyone in the building.”
