Thirteen receives national accreditation for commitment to supporting survivors of domestic abuse

Thirteen has been recognised by Domestic Abuse Housing Alliance (DAHA) for our commitment to tackling domestic abuse with formal accreditation.

DAHA accreditation is the national benchmark for how housing providers should respond to domestic abuse, recognising that housing providers are in a unique position to identify abuse, prevent it and provide help for those affected.

To achieve DAHA accreditation, the housing group had to demonstrate how it is improving the quality of service for victims seeking housing advice and supporting tenants and staff who may be experiencing domestic abuse.

It is the latest in a series of initiatives Thirteen has been involved in to improve and adapt services to ensure they are able to support those who need it most, including working towards national domestic abuse charity SafeLives Leading Lights accreditation.

As part of the accreditation process, DAHA assessors conducted interviews with colleagues and reviewed how the organisation deals with cases of domestic abuse.

Judith Vickress, DAHA Team Lead & National Development Manager, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have awarded Thirteen Group DAHA Accreditation status.

“We were deeply impressed with the commitment, passion and compassion of staff at Thirteen to identify domestic abuse early and provide the most effective response.

“A domestic abuse lens is used as daily business in Thirteen. There is a believing and non-judgmental survivor led approach embedded across the organisation thus creating an enabling environment for tenants, and also staff, to come forward and disclose the abuse they are experiencing knowing that they will be supported.

“Housing has such a vital role to play in the coordinated community response to domestic abuse and we are excited to see how Thirteen build on this accreditation and continue to improve the lives of victims/survivors whilst holding abusers to account for their behaviour.”

Kay Glew, Director of Operations at Thirteen, praised the commitment of colleagues for their efforts in tackling domestic abuse and supporting victims to rebuild their lives.

She said: “We are very proud to receive DAHA accreditation. By going through this process, we have been able to increase awareness and encourage more conversations around understanding the complexities of domestic abuse amongst our colleagues.

“This work has led us to make improvements to how we engage with customers who experience domestic abuse, as well as how we identify and support customers who could be at risk.

“Achieving accreditation is just the beginning for us and we’ll continue to develop our services and ensure we maintain high-quality support, as well as making sure our much-needed support is available to those who need it and as accessible as possible.”
