Residents at Thirteen’s Mascot House have been exploring memory, culture and creativity as part of the House of Evergreen Arts Project.
The project brings people together through arts and crafts, giving participants the chance to learn new skills, share stories and cultural memories, and express themselves creatively.
As part of the project, Mascot House residents have created a range of handmade artwork inspired by their memories, traditions and cultural identities.
Their work has also been showcased as part of House of Evergreen exhibitions at the Northeast Chinese Association (NECA) and Northumbria University Library, giving residents the opportunity to share their creativity and experiences with the wider community.
The House of Evergreen project explores the relationship between creativity and brain health, while highlighting the role that arts and culture can play in supporting wellbeing, preserving memories and bringing people together.
Residents from Mascot House have enjoyed getting involved, trying new activities and seeing their work included in the exhibitions.
The project has been supported by Alzheimer’s Research UK, Dr Frank Lai and the team at Northumbria University, artist facilitator Pui Lee, the Northeast Chinese Association, South Mountain Chinese Older People Association, Search Newcastle, Newcastle Chinese Healthy Living Centre and Newcastle Elders Council, alongside organisations from across Newcastle.
Thirteen is proud to support opportunities that help customers connect with others, celebrate different cultures and take part in activities that support their wellbeing.
