Residents at one of our sheltered housing schemes in Stockton are enjoying their newly improved homes, thanks to a £1.9million investment.

We appointed sustainable regeneration specialist Equans to deliver the improvements at Cedar House, through our Capital Delivery Framework - helping to future-proof the scheme while significantly enhancing day-to-day life for residents.

Cedar House, which provides supported living accommodation, has benefited from a wide range of upgrades to its communal areas.

The communal lounge has been transformed into a bright, welcoming space for residents to socialise, with the addition of a new kitchen to provide an area for refreshments.

Other upgrades throughout the building include improved heating and ventilation, an upgraded lift, new fire alarm and CCTV systems, as well as fresh decoration, new flooring, internal and external lighting, Wi-Fi and TV systems, and a new warden call system.

New external doors and an enhanced entry system for each flat have also been installed, as well as new internal fire doors throughout the building.

A disused former warden’s house has also been converted into two brand new apartments, creating much-needed extra homes for new residents.

The improvements are designed to make Cedar House more comfortable, energy‑efficient and secure, while continuing to support residents to live independently for longer.

Sean Corcoran, regional director at Equans said: “We’re proud to have worked with Thirteen to carry out these improvements at Cedar House.

“Sheltered housing plays a vital role in supporting people as they age, and these upgrades will make a real difference to the comfort, safety and wellbeing of residents. We’ve already had excellent feedback from residents about their improved communal areas – we hope they enjoy spending time in their new social space for many years to come.”

Thirteen’s head of investment delivery Gavin McCann added: “Supporting our customers to live independently, now and into the future is a priority, and this project is about investing for the long term to create a place where residents feel comfortable, safe and proud to call home.

“Communal spaces are at the heart of schemes like Cedar House. They’re where residents come together to socialise, so it’s fantastic to see these areas transformed into modern, welcoming spaces.

“Seeing the positive impact the improvements are already having makes this investment especially rewarding.

The completed work forms part of our wider investment programme, which is improving thousands of homes across the North East and Yorkshire.
