Offering a choice of 64 one and two bedroom apartments and 26 two bedroomed bungalows for rent, shared ownership the scheme also has the benefit of staff on hand to provide support 24 hours a day and a vibrant café/bistro serving a great choice and meals and somewhere for people to meet and greet.
Orchid House is set across three floors and includes a communal area on each floor and an attractive garden room for residents to enjoy. Opening onto the main piazza called Campion Square, the extra care apartments form part of a new community hub with retail units.
All the properties have been thoughtfully designed to provide high quality accommodation for those requiring additional levels of care and support and easy access to enable them to maintain a high level of independence.
Mr Hollinrake met Mrs Phillips, who moved from Aberdeen in Scotland to be near her daughter in Sowerby. She was fine in her own bungalow until her health and mobility deteriorated and the property was no longer suitable and she needed some support to continue to live as independently as possible.
Mrs Philips told Mr Hollinrake that her apartment is beautiful and spacious, she loves living at Herriot Gardens and she can’t believe the help and support she has received. She has met new people and attends all the social events that have been organised, as when she was living in the bungalow she said was lonely because she could not get out and about due to her mobility deteriorating.
Thirteen Group worked on the project in partnership with North Yorkshire County Council, Hambleton District Council and construction company Galliford Try Partnerships North, supported by funding from the Homes and Communities Agency. Galliford Try’s housebuilding division, Linden Homes, is marketing the properties for sale.
David Pickard, Director of Operations at Thirteen Group, said: “We were delighted to welcome Mr Hollinrake to Herriot Gardens.
“What we have done here is provide a range of excellent new homes with options to rent or buy alongside a real community feel that together with our partners, Thirteen is proud to show off. We invite anyone interested in living here to come and have a look around. We are sure they will be impressed.”
Kevin Hollinrake, MP for Thirsk and Malton, said: “I was delighted to see the superb new premises and facilities at Orchid House, it was immediately apparent how much thought had gone into creating the community at Herriot Gardens. I would like to congratulate the Thirteen Group, NYCC and the Hambleton and Richmondshire Clinical Commisioning Group and all the staff at Orchid House on their vision and hard work in delivering this scheme.
“I very much enjoyed talking to a number of the residents who benefit from the care being offered and believe that the supported housing scheme, step down and palliative care facilities will be a hugely important asset for many local residents and their families.”
Thirteen Group has a wide range of affordable properties available across the region.
