New homes in Middlesbrough take a step closer

We’re pleased to announce that new homes on the site of two high-rise buildings in Brambles Farm, Middlesbrough are a step closer after our demolition partner MGL moved specialist machinery on to site this weekend.

PortlandHouse Demolition 11

18 May 2021

The first high-rise building being demolished is Portland House. Following preliminary work to soft strip the fixtures and fittings from the building, a high reaching machine has now arrived on site to start the next step in the demolition. This will reduce the height of the building to four to five storeys, at which point a smaller excavator will be employed to clear the site.

Portland House alongside Milford House, next door are being demolished to make way for 90 new homes, ranging from one-bedroom apartments, two and three-bedroom family houses and bungalows as well as an impressive crescent of three-storey, four-bedroom townhouses. The plans to demolish the nearby Jupiter Court site across the other side of Cargo Fleet Lane is also progressing well and will deliver a further 15 bungalows.

All homes will be for affordable rent and subject to planning approval, we’re continuing to work with Middlesbrough Council, Homes England & partners to bring these fantastic new homes to life.

Following the announcement to demolish the blocks, back in 2018, our dedicated relocations team worked really closely with residents to ensure they all found suitable new homes.

Over the next five years, our commitment to our social purpose means we’ll invest over £1bn to improve our services, tenants’ homes and their neighbourhoods, as well as delivering new affordable homes.
