The development is in partnership with Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, which will manage lettings of the 51 new homes. It has been handed over to Thirteen by Esh Construction, part of Esh Group, which built the properties.
The Eston Community Village, which is located in Lodge Farm Road, Eston, features 38 one bedroom apartments across four buildings. The apartments have been specially designed to provide a high quality environment for people with dementia, mental health issues and learning difficulties.
Each apartment features an open-plan kitchen, dining and lounge area together with a bathroom, which can be accessed from the bedroom as well as the hallway. Residents will also have access to a large and welcoming communal lounge area.
Alongside the apartments will be 13 bungalows, which will be available to tenants over the age of 55. Two of the bungalows will be built to provide wheelchair access.
The Eston Community Village is adjacent to Barnaby House, an extra-care facility featuring 40 apartments, which is also owned and operated by Thirteen.
Ian Wardle, chief executive of Thirteen Group said: “We are looking forward to welcoming the first residents to Eston Community Village.
“Eston Community Village has created an important provision for the local area, which will deliver high quality, modern homes that will meet the needs of residents who will benefit from its specialist features.
“It will mean they can lead independent lives while receiving the care and support they need to be an integral part of their own community.
“Suitable homes for older people are also very important for Eston and the surrounding area. By providing both types of housing on this one site, we are fulfilling two key needs in the area.”
Paul Redman, Divisional Director of Esh Construction, said: “At Eston our experience of building other types of specialist accommodation has stood us in good stead, this allied with always working with the end user in mind has ensured that the final product is an exemplar of its type.
“This is a much-needed development that will allow vulnerable people to retain some of their independence while having easy access to extra care and support – and we are proud to have been involved in bringing it to fruition.”
Councillor David Walsh, cabinet member for adults at Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, said: “Through a successful partnership with Thirteen we are delighted to see this innovative scheme open. The Village caters for a range of disability groups and provides residents with a tailored, high quality, supported living environment. The scheme will greatly enhance the supported living offer in our borough.”
