Stay safe this bank holiday weekend

Thirteen’s building safety team is reminding customers to take extra care as they stay at home for the bank holiday weekend.

The team are appealing to communities to take extra care when having a barbeque, and asking - please don’t burn any garden rubbish.

Building safety manager John Waines said: “While a fire may seem like an easy way of getting rid of home and garden rubbish, this brings an increased risk of fire to the home.

“If you are going to have a barbeque, while you’re at home with the family, please follow some simple safety advice – never leave the barbeque unattended, don't drink alcohol while cooking, keep it well away from your shed and fence and never use petrol or paraffin.

“We should be supporting the emergency services during these challenging times and not putting them at increased risk.”
