The Thirteen Ali Brownlee 5k and 2k event is organised by Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All and bring together runners, families and fundraisers in memory of the much-loved broadcaster and proud Boro supporter, Ali Brownlee.

The event is a real celebration of community spirit. The 5k starts at 10.15am, setting off from Centre Square and passing some of the town’s best-known landmarks, including Ali’s beloved Riverside Stadium. The 2k starts at 11.15am and is a great option for younger runners or anyone wanting to soak up the atmosphere at a gentler pace.

We offered free places for Thirteen customers and colleagues to take part, as part of our wider work to support health and wellbeing in our communities. Please come along and line the streets to cheer our Team Thirteen on if you can!

And on the day, we’ll be bringing along our mobile touchpoint van, so if you see us, please come and say hello! Our friendly team will be there to chat about everything from finding a home and support into work, to getting help with your tenancy.

Middlesbrough Mayor Chris Cooke said: “The Ali Brownlee 5k is rightly popular as one of the best events of its kind, not just here in the north east but in the whole country.

“It’s a fitting tribute to one of the great characters of local broadcasting and a tireless advocate for grass roots sport, and many of those taking part will be raising much-needed funds for a host of local charities and good causes.

“It really is an event for everyone, regardless of age or ability, and that’s why it continues to go from strength to strength.”

Tristan Batley-Kyle, Operations Director at Run For All, added: “The Thirteen Ali Brownlee 5k and 2k are more than just runs, but a celebration of community spirit and a tribute to Ali Brownlee – a man who brought so much energy and passion to Middlesbrough.

“We’re honoured to be hosting the event with the support of Thirteen Group, Middlesbrough Council and Everyone Active and look forwards to welcoming participants of all agents to come together on June 1.”

It promises to be a great day out for all ages;  whether you’re running, walking or cheering from the sidelines.
