Thirteen is helping to 'close the gaps' for Employability Day

Thirteen is joining providers across the country to celebrate Employability Day on Friday 28 June to show how it supports people into work. This year’s theme is ‘closing the gaps’ and the organisation's dedicated employability team helps customers find jobs, education and training opportunities. The team works with employers to offer exclusive job vacancies to customers which aren’t advertised locally anywhere else.

The team are out and about across the region on Friday to celebrate the day and the map below shows where they will be for anyone to drop in and see them for job or training support.

To show what kind of support the team can offer, here are two of their recent successes:

Karen's story

Karen had been unemployed for over two years and heard about our employability service from our supported housing team. She linked with a caseworker in December to improve her CV, application and interview skills.

She was also referred to the Routes to Work programme for training where she gained her SIA and CCTV licence along with First Aid at Work and has secured a role in Thirteen’s concierge team!

Karen has been a great asset to the team. Her manager said: “Karen will go from strength to strength in this role as she gathers more experience. She is a pleasure to work with and I have had nothing but positive feedback from her colleagues.”

Lauren's story

Lauren joined Thirteen’s employability service in March after hearing about the service from a family friend. She had come out of a role in childcare a few months before and was looking to get back into a similar job in Middlesbrough, as she holds a Paediatric First Aid Qualification.

Lauren worked with her caseworker to identify opportunities in the area and showcase her skills to employers across Middlesbrough. We helped Lauren develop a CV and provided application and interview support, working with our employer engagement team to contact local childcare businesses to express interest in vacancies. With our support, she has secured a job at a Middlesbrough day care centre, using and building her skills into a career in childcare.
