Rhyse, 23, from Hartlepool, is the winner of our Tall Ships social media competition and he is currently preparing for the trip of a lifetime. He will board tall ship ‘The Swan’ and sail from Den Helder in the Netherlands back to Hartlepool from 1 - 8 July 2023.

As a sail trainee Rhyse will get to experience all aspects of life aboard a ship. He'll learn the ropes, taking part in all crew activities, including climbing the masts, hoisting the sails and much more, before completing the race as part of the magnificent parade of sail.

On hearing the news, Rhyse said: "I am so grateful to Thirteen for this fantastic opportunity. I am really looking forward to learning new skills, meeting new people, and making some great memories."

Head of community resilience, Angela Corner, added: "We loved Rhyse's enthusiasm in his entry video and his interest in documenting his travels whilst representing Hartlepool on board the ship. We can't wait to see what he gets up to when he returns to the UK."

You can follow Rhyse's journey on our social media channels.

The Swan, along with the other ships will return to Hartlepool during the weekend-long Tall Ships celebrations held at the marina from 6 - 9 July where we will have an exhibitor stall. Pop down to see us for plenty of games and fun for all!
