Young building safety professional recognised in national housing competition [Archived]

Thirteen’s building safety operative, Josh Yellow has successfully been awarded a place in the final 20 of the Housing’s Next Generation competition.

The competition which is run by Housing Quality Network (HQN), showcases the amazing young professionals in the housing sector and the new ideas they bring to the table.

After training as an apprentice joiner, 24-year-old Josh, set his sights on a career in building safety.

He joined Thirteen’s investment team, having worked for a construction company, before taking up an opportunity too good to miss - in building safety.

Building safety manager John Waines said: “This is a fantastic achievement for Josh and it’s so well deserved.

“He puts customer and building safety at the heart of everything he does.  Josh’s role as a building safety operative, plays a vital part in the company’s fire door safety programme – something Josh is pivotal in making a success.

“Having a specialist team of joiners who solely work within a building safety team is unique for a housing association and Josh, as a young joiner has shown how talented he is, not only as a tradesperson, but how he has the ability to grasp the challenges of keeping an organisation compliant.

Josh is a shining example of a team member who is willing to learn, develop and not be afraid to share ideas, while always going the extra mile to help.”

Josh added: “It’s a honour to be joining other housing professionals in this competition and to be recognised for the contribution I’m making within my career in building safety and I’m excited to see what the next stage of the competition brings.”

The next stage of the competition will see ten candidates being chosen to take part in the semi-final next month, before the final five compete in the grand final at the Housing Quality Network annual conference in July.
