We recently teamed up with The Annexe, Dyke House, to get the community involved in designing and installing a large sail to be displayed outside their centre. Our community resilience team sourced a second-hand sail from Tees and Hartlepool Yacht Club for the activity.

The upcycling team based at our recycling centre traced the children’s designs onto the sail using overhead projector transparencies, which the community resilience team funded. The sail was then returned to The Annexe, where the children brought it to life by painting it.

The wider community then came together to build a wooden support and erect the sail to the building front and is now visible on the walking routes to the event.

Head of community resilience, Angela Corner, added:

"It’s great to see that our continued work with the community in Hartlepool is making a difference and that so many children are getting involved in this project.

“Events of this scale help to bring people together, and it’s been fantastic to see the community spirit grow in preparation for the races.”

The ship returns to Hartlepool during the weekend-long Tall Ships celebrations held at the marina from 6 - 9 July. You can find out more at www.tallshipshartlepool2023.co.uk
